We’ve all had them…good days and bad days. At work, how we are feeling can affect our productivity, performance and the also the culture of our workplace.
In addition to our Workplace Respect programs, Creating People Power is taking further steps to help foster positive change in our workplaces. We are delighted to announce that as of today, we are working with Partners for Mental Health, a national charitable organization and can now offer the Not Myself Today® Toolkit to our loyal and trusted clients.
Is your workplace ready to listen when our friends and colleagues say “I’m Not Myself Today?”
Last fall, our colleague Ryan Chopin, PCC invited me to attend the Mental Health First Aid workshop. To say that it was an eye opener would be an understatement. Having discussed the costs and consequences of disrespectful behaviours in our Workplace Respect program for nearly 10 years, I felt as though we were only touching the surface. We could hear it in the discussions; stigma accounts for some of the major challenges in dealing with mental health in our workplace.
If you’ve worked with Creating People Power in the past, you will know we believe “It’s all about the conversation!”
Did you know?
1 in 5 Canadians will have a mental illness (including depression, anxiety, stress, fatigue and burnout and other mental disorders) this year. (Source: Kessler, R.C., Chiu, W.T., Demler, O., Walters, E.E. (2005). Prevalence, Severity, and Comorbidity of 12-Month DSM-IV Disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication. Archives of General Psychiatry, 62 (6), 617-627). Taking that statistic into consideration, many of us probably know or work with someone dealing with a mental health problem or illness.
There is a cost to poor mental health both for individuals and employers. Lost productivity, absenteeism and costs related to disability affect us all. Promoting and protecting the mental health of employees doesn’t just make good business sense, it is investing in and protecting your most valuable asset – your people.
What is it?
Similar to our Workplace Respect programs, this workplace mental health initiative helps companies build greater awareness and understanding, reduce stigma and foster safe and supportive cultures.
Not Myself Today® , an initiative of Partners for Mental Health, is an evidence-informed, practical solution that helps employers transform mental health at work. Participating companies receive a physical and digital toolkit that offers :
- planning and implementation support;
- kick off materials to help launch the initiative within your organization;
- Six different activities to engage employees;
- evaluation tools to help you gather insights;
- national recognition;
- AND MORE!
Not Myself Today® breaks down barriers and makes mental health engaging and accessible to all employees. This self-directed initiative simply needs a champion within the organization to support it.
